    This workshop will bring a new vision of spatial economics by introducing spatial theory, methodology, technology, data and online tools for the spatial study of economy and society. It will discuss a general framework for spatial economy based on the ecological system theory. The workshop will focus on an entry-level of training on the newly developed spatial data explorers (China Geo-Explorer, US Geo-Explorer, Urban and Regional Explorer), distributed by the University of Michigan China Data Center. Meanwhile, the training workshop will demonstrate how space-time data of different formats and sources can be integrated, visualized, analyzed and reported in a web based system and discuss how the internet data and social media data can be integrated for the spatial study of economy and society. Some case studies on regional economy population, environment and health will be discussed.
