      Job Title: Assistant Director and Associate Research Scientist


      Develop business plans and marketing strategies for promoting the center activities. Coordinate the center routine operations. Assist in the development of the annual budget and adhere to the budgets/plans and communicate clearly and consistently to the Director. Identify new scientific initiatives and investigative opportunities having the potential to contribute to the research mission of the Geo-Computation Center for Social Sciences. Design, manage, and conduct research projects for improved understanding of spatial social sciences. Identify, develop, and offer research training opportunities for students and researchers. Author and publish research findings in appropriate peer-reviewed science journals. Contribute to the development of research proposals that have the potential to attract funding to the Geo-Computation Center for Social Sciences. Develop strategic partners and implement the execution framework and strategic plan on identified opportunities.


      PhD in GIS, spatial sciences or related degree.  3-5 years’ research experience in GIS and spatial science related research.  Strong research interests in spatial social sciences. Good verbal/written communication in Chinese and English. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability and potential to develop autonomy as an independent researcher either singly or as part of a research team.  Successfully demonstrate evidence of potential for scholarship, including obtaining external funding.  Have the ability to successfully develop a project under the direction of the center director.


      Wuhan University will offer competitive compensation packages with an annual salary of 300,000 RMB (about US $45,550/year) and benefits.

      About the Center:

      The Geocomputation Center for Social Sciences is jointly supported by the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing (LMARS) of Wuhan University, the Center for Spatial Data Science of the University of Chicago, and the China Data Center of the University of Michigan. The center is designed to establish a research infrastructure for promoting international collaborations in spatial social sciences and provide the groundwork for advancing additional joint research projects. The center is chaired by Professor Jianya Gong at Wuhan University and co-chaired by Professors Luc Anselin at the University of Chicago and Shuming Bao at the University of Michigan.
